Hundreds receive food from Second Harvest Heartland

During these trying times, families may be experiencing trouble making ends meet.

Whether it be paying a bill or putting adequate food on the table, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected many. Hundreds of families from throughout Le Sueur County were the recipients of some goodwill from Second Harvest Heartland and a group of more than three dozen volunteers Friday, June 19.

The Le Sueur County Fairgrounds in Le Center was the site of free food distribution.

Second Harvest contacted the food shelf’s in the county and said they had extra food to distribute.

They were looking to counties who would be willing to hold a food distribution and Sharon Traxler of Le Center decided to take on the project.

Traxler, along with Kathy Christensen and Connie Harmeyer, spearheaded the project which benefitted any resident of the county.

“Connie and Kathy helped me to get it all organized,” Traxler said. Traxler also pointed out the many volunteers who spent the better part of five hours working on the distribution.

“Everybody worked so hard and everyone stepped up,” Traxler said. “It was even better than I expected. We couldn’t have had a better day or better workers.”

There were volunteers loading the boxes and the Le Sueur County Posse directed traffic off of Highway 99 and throughout the fairgrounds.
