Barbara Jean Gieseke, 87

Barbara Jean Gieseke, age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and into the loving arms of Jesus, on July 25, 2024. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, nurse, caregiver, and follower of the Lord.

Barbara is preceded in death by her mother Helen Dahl, sister Emily LaBelle, and brother Richard Townsend. Barbara met her husband Gene while dancing at the Prom Ballroom in her hometown of Minneapolis, MN. They made an excellent match and eloped to South Dakota during a January snowstorm. They spent the next 62 years together on their farm outside Kilkenny, MN, devoted in marriage to one another.

Barbara became a licensed practical nurse, and pursued a decades-long career at District One Hospital in Faribault, MN, doing what she loved best. Her patients found comfort in her caregiving, with one patient going on to dedicate a book in her honor. Barbara also loved to bake and was specifically known for her pie making skills and her delicious gravy. She took pride in cooking and providing for those she loved. But, most importantly, Barbara was known for her love for Christ. She was referred to as the “prayer warrior” for the family, and would pray daily for her family, children, friends, and community members in need. Even in her final weeks, she continued to pray for those other than herself, and we are confident she is now in glory, advocating for all of us still here on Earth.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband Gene; son Jim Gieseke (and Cheryl) of Houston, TX and grandchildren Sean, Jonathan, Rebekah, Samuel, and Ruth; daughter Kelli Totten (and Tim) of South Kona, Hawaii and grandchildren David, Cliff, Ben, Sarah, and Arielle; son Jody Gieseke (and Julie) of Corinth, TX and grandchildren Abby and Josiah; and daughter Amy Bundgus (and Mark) of Lantana, TX and grandchildren Caleb and Ethan; as well as her brother Jerry and numerous great-grandchildren and extended family, nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Tuesday, July 30 at 2 p.m. at Lucas Funeral Home at 700 W. Wall Street in Grapevine, TX, with viewing beginning one hour prior at 1 p.m. Condolences can be directed to her husband Gene at 2304 Mallory Drive, Corinth, TX, 76210.
