Gertie, daughter of James and Anna (Kotavy) Tuma, was born in Wheatland Township on February 18, 1925. She lived on the family farm until the age of twenty when she became a housekeeper for the Frank Turek and Joe Kaderlik families.

She stayed with her sister in Montgomery during the three years she worked at the Munsingwear plant. She then moved to Minneapolis and began working at the Franklin Nursing Home, and when it sold, she continued working for the new ownership until her retirement at age 75.

During her working years, she used her vacation time to travel with her niece to Europe, California, Nebraska, and Colorado. She was a daily walker and had suffered a fall breaking her hip. After she recovered, she decided to move closer to her family in Montgomery. She resided at Park Manor Apartments. She continued her daily walks and helped with the noon meals.

Gertie is survived by brother, Alvin (Aggie) Tuma of Montgomery; and nieces and nephews.

Gertie is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Alice, Gladys, Ardeen and Lucille; brothers, Richard, and Milo (Marian).
