GSL ends season for TCU boys basketball
There are some nights when things just don’t go well.
Tri City United (TCU) head boys basketball coach John Rumpza said their game Feb. 26 against Blue Earth Area (BEA) was one of those nights.
BEA defeated TCU, 71-48 in the regular season finale for the Titans. They finished with a 10-16 overall record heading into the Section 2AA North Sub-Section Playoffs which started Tuesday, March 5 against Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL). TCU was seeded sixth and GSL third.
“We had a tough time offensively and defensively in this one, but this just proved to be one of those nights where we could not get a lot of shots to fall,” Rumpza said. “We had a total field goal percentage under 30 percent. It was disappointing to not finish the regular season very strong, and I know that these seniors wanted to go out strong on their home floor and to get their 11th win of the season, but some nights just aren’t your night, and this was true last Monday, especially from an offensive perspective.”
BEA shot 40 percent from the field compared to TCU’s 29.3 percent, including BEA going 12-of-35 from 3, and TCU going just 3-of-22 from 3. Both teams rebounded the ball well, TCU grabbing a total of 47 and BEA grabbing 40 total. This included 16 offensive rebounds for TCU, but they were only able to cash in 11 second chance points off of these 16 rebounds.
Reggie Vosejpka posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Connor Flintrop had seven points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks. Luke Holicky added six points and seven rebounds. Abdoulaye Tandia added six points and eight, and Dylan Fink had four points and five rebounds. Matthew Squires chipped in six points and four assists.
