Harriet (Choudek) Novotny, 84

Harriet Ann Novotny, 84 of Webster, MN passed away on Sunday April 5, 2020 at her home in Webster.

Harriet was born on November 30, 1935, and grew up on the family farm in Montgomery. The daughter of George and Anna (Pavek) Choudek, she graduated from Montgomery High School in 1953 and went to work at Munsingwear.

Harriet met Raymond Novotny, and they married on June 26, 1956. They started a family and rented a house in Webster for two years before purchasing their current home where she lived for 62 years.

Harriet was a stay-at-home mom who raised her children and later looked after her grandchildren. She enjoyed birdwatching and never turned down a game of Scrabble or Euchre. We all enjoyed many marathon Euchre games at her home.

She was active with the Annunciation Catholic Church in Hazelwood for many years, where she helped the ladies group make hundreds of quilts.

Harriet is preceded in death by her husband Raymond; parents, George and Anna Choudek; sister, Marion Brezina and son-in-law, Richard Rice.

She is survived by her children: Gary (Jean), Russell (Kristine), Debra Johnson (Mike Thompson), Steve (Katie), Kathleen Rice and Greg; grandchildren: Michelle, Jennifer, Nastacia, Nicholas, Karissa, Ashley, Hunter, Madison and Austin; great grandchildren: Alice, Weston, Waylon, Leah, Emme, Isaac and Christopher; sister Evelyn Fierst and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A private graveside service will take place at Hazelwood Catholic Cemetery. A celebration of Harriet’s life will take place at a later date.
