The Montgomery Area Community Club, the organization responsible for organizing Kolacky Days announced this year’s candidates for the Kolacky Days Queen Pageant.

The six candidates are Marissa Gare, daughter of Joshua and Linda Gare; Rachel Rynda, daughter of Francis and Theresa Rynda; Nicole Schweitzer, daughter of Renee Sorenson; Chloe Triden, daughter of Lori Triden and Tim Triden; Rachel Way, daughter of Tina Way and Chuck Way; and Nikaija Young, daughter of Kurt and Cris Young.

Due to the COVID-19 health crisis, the girls and their parents/guardians were unable to attend a Parent Meeting to hear rules and regulations for being a candidate or to receive their buttons. According to Sue Rutt, who volunteers for the pageant, organizers hoped to do this after May 4, but that has now been pushed back again.

“We may have to do it via Zoom,” she said. “A lot of it depends on the direction of MACC too and how they are going to proceed. A pageant can and will happen but we just don’t know yet how it might look.”

The candidates also received their required 50 Kolacky Buttons to sell.

The Kolacky Days ambassadors receive their scholarships after they successfully finish their year of required appearances and one semester of post-secondary education. The scholarship totals remain the same: Queen $2,500, First Princess $2,000, Second Princess $1,500, Miss Congeniality $1,000.

To qualify as a candidate for the pageant, students must be females in good standing in the Tri-City United School District. They must live within a given radius of Montgomery and Kilkenny. However, if they live outside the radius, they can petition the community club for approval.

The royal court is responsible for attending more than 15 parades throughout the area as well as community events and appearances.
