Montgomery residents Bob and Colleen Pavek and their family will be honored at the Arts and Heritage Center’s Heritage Breakfast on April 28 at Hilltop Hall.

When it comes to volunteering, Bob and Colleen Pavek don’t let something like Colleen almost dying hold them back.

Five years ago Colleen should have died.

But, she didn’t, and the Paveks continue to volunteer in the community.

In recognition for their commitment, the Pavek family will be honored at the annual Arts & Heritage (A&H) Center’s Heritage Breakfast. It will be held on Sunday, April 28 at Hilltop Hall. A&H Center members are serving from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

“Bob and Colleen are the epitome of what our breakfast represents. They have worked in our community, raised their family here, and have volunteered for almost every event held in this area. They have been key members in many organizations, including Kolacky Days. They hold our community dear in their hearts and we hold them close in ours,” stated A & H representative Kathy Peterson.

The Paveks’ ancestries are a melange of backgrounds. Bob is 100 percent Czech. His great-grandparents and his Grandfather Trnka were all born in Bohemia and lived in the area of Budjovick. Bob still speaks the language, but lacks opportunities to use it.

“I speak it, but I’m losing it,” he said. “My dad passed away 11 years ago and we spoke Czech a lot.”
