The Montgomery Police Department put up a sign designating a “Safe Exchange Zone” area in the front of their new building entrance at 300 Lexington Avenue NW.

The department says the area is intended for people that need a place to exchange items purchased on social media market places or child custody exchanges. The area can be used for a number of reasons though that are specifically intended for what could be risky interactions where you are meeting someone you don’t know.

Video surveillance covers the area and there is usually staff in the building at most hours of the day. Some members in the community had previously asked for such a location, noting that other cities offer safe-exchange zones in their cities.
