Titans end softball season at Sections

The Le Sueur-Henderson Giants and New Richland H-E-G Panthers ended Tri-City United’s run in the Section 2AA Softball Tournament on Saturday, May 25 at Caswell Park.

After shut-out wins over Belle Plaine and Waseca, a different looking TCU team lost first in the semi-finals and finally in the elimination round. Coach Phil Murry said the team came to the game, but wasn’t ready to play.

“For whatever reason, we didn’t come ready to play at all.  We had no fire,” he said. “When you are playing teams of this caliber, you need to bring your ‘A’ game, and we definitely did not,” he stated. “It was a disappointing end to our season. I really thought that we had a chance to make some noise in this tournament, but it didn’t happen.”

In the semi-finals game, Brooke Blaschko was 1 for 3 with a run scored and a double. Her inning was the first when she lead off with a double. Elly Novak was 2 for 2.

“We gave up five in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth,” Murry stated.

The losing pitcher was Novak who went 6 innings, allowed 3 hits, 7 runs, 2 walks and had 12 strikeouts.

Hitters for this game were Elllaina Novak who was 1-3. Her homer in the bottom of the sixth inning scored two Titans for the team’s only runs. The Panthers, however, scored in the one run in fourth, five in the sixth, and two in the seventh inning to put away the game.

Elly Novak was the losing pitcher again, going 5 ⅓ innings, allowing 9 hits, 6 runs, and having 5 strikeouts.

Still, the season was not a total loss. Murry said the girls’ hard work and determination improved the school’s season.

“I told the girls that we did turn our season around from 8-15 a year ago to 14-8 this year,” he stated. “That is something to be proud of."
