Highway 21 lane closures began April 19 in Rice County
Motorists on Highway 21 in Rice County at Shieldsville are encountering lane closures that began April 19 as crews start resurfacing, making intersection improvements and repairing culverts, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Work includes resurfacing approximately eight miles of Hwy. 21 from about one mile west of Interstate 35 to Highway 99. New turn lanes/bypass lanes will be installed at Shields Court, Mazaska Lake Trail, Lake Mazaska Boat Launch and French Lake Trail.
Additionally, the Rice County Road 62 (Halstad Avenue) intersection will be improved, and overhead lighting will be added for safety. Culvert repairs will also be done in several locations. A map showing the locations of the work can be found on the project website.
Crane Creek Asphalt is the prime contractor on the $2,807,388 project. All work is scheduled to be completed by the end of June, weather permitting. The turn lane at the Lake Mazaska Boat Launch is the priority and is estimated to be completed by early May, if weather permits.
