NP motocross racer on the comeback trail

Zack Williams will be racing this Saturday, July 15, at Spring Creek Motocross Park in Millville, Minn.

When he was 4 years old, Jay Williams introduced his son, Zack, to motocross racing. By the time he was 18, he won an amateur national championship. A year later, he turned professional and began racing for prize money.
He was initially attracted by the speed, the grit and determination of motocross racing. Later, Williams grew to appreciate the individual nature of the sport.
“You put the helmet on and it’s just you and the bike,” he said.
Now, 29, Williams, a New Prague resident, is competing against other professionals on the American Motorcycle Association circuit for motocross racers. The 11-event series will make a stop Saturday, July 15, at Spring Creek Motocross Park in Millville, Minn. Professionals like Williams will be racing Saturday. Amateur riders will be competing Friday, July 14, and Saturday.
This weekend’s racing is Williams’ second event this season. In February, while training for the coming season, he crashed. Williams suffered a broken left hip socket. Recovering from the injury required Williams to spend three months off the motorcycle. He spent two months “rebuilding myself” and slowly returning to competition.
