The Le Sueur/Rice County Drug Task Force was very busy in 2019.

Le Sueur County Chief Deputy Nick Greenig presented information about the work completed by the drug task force within the county during the Elysian City Council meeting Feb. 11.

Last year there were 64 cases opened, 55 search warrants were issued, and there were 61 arrests made.

A total of $18,020 in cash was seized as were nine firearms.

More than 3.4 million dollars in street value worth of controlled substances were seized.

The largest amount of substances included 120 pounds of liquid methamphetamines ($2,724,000 street value), 8,876 grams or 19.5 pounds of controlled substances ($447,746), and 1,414 prescription pills ($180,730).

“Agents with the task force had an ongoing drug investigation into a Mexican Drug Trafficking organization affecting Le Sueur County,” Greenig’s report said. “Agents were able to arrest individuals connected in trafficking large amounts of cocaine and ‘Mexican’ blue oxycodone pills that have been the cause of many overdose deaths in the state of Minnesota.”

The task force continues to investigate this organization and several individuals that reside in the City of Montgomery have been arrested and charged.

Greenig’s report said the task force is currently investigating a drug trafficking organization selling methamphetamines around the county in the cities of Kilkenny, Elysian, Waterville, Montgomery, and around the New Prague area.

The investigation has already yielded a seizure of 120 pounds of liquid meth (60 pounds of crystal meth). It has also resulted in six federal indictments.
