Le Sueur Co. rates among state's best by Dept. of Human Services

When it comes to timeliness, Le Sueur County Human Services is among the best in the state.

Minnesota Department of Human Services records list Le Sueur County as one of five counties in the state when it comes to 2018 child protection assessment visits. .

The county did not miss one of its scheduled 146 visits last year. Only Le Sueur, Marshall, Stevens, Red Lake, and Lake of the Woods counties had a 100 percent rating in overall timeliness.

The state average rating is 88.4 percent.

Le Sueur County currently has more than 6,700 total children, while Marshall County has 2,137, Stevens County 1,985 and Red Lake and Lake of the Woods less than 1,000 each. This wasn't the only category that the county received a perfect 100 percent rating. They did not miss a family investigation (24 hours response), family investigation (5 day response), family assessment (5 day response), or a caseworker visit (398-of- 398).

In other Le Sueur County Board business: * Commissioner Danny O'Keefe was appointed to the HRA Board. * Discussion was held on broadband within the county. A feasibility study was recently completed by Finley Engineering on adding broadband throughout the county. The commissioners will continue to monitor broadband and there was also discussions of surveying the residents for their thoughts on the subject. * A utility rate study will be completed for the West Jefferson Subordinate Sewer District. The new district will provide new sewer collection service for up to 140 lots around West Jefferson Lake and will establish sewer utility rates that will pay for the operations of the district.

The cost of the study is approximately $5,000.
