UPDATE - Highway 93 at Henderson expected to open by 6 p.m. today, March 12

MANKATO, Minn. – (3 p.m.) Highway 93 from Highway 169 to Henderson is expected to reopen by 6 p.m. this evening, Thursday, March 12, after being closed since March 8 due to flooding on the Rush River.  Crews have been working to clear debris off the road and make repairs to shoulders and culverts.

 The shoulders of southbound Highway 93 are extremely soft due to exposure to the floodwaters. MnDOT is advising no travel on the shoulders until they dry out and repairs can be made.

 MnDOT crews will continue to monitor area highways and bridges to ensure motorists safety.

 Highways open:

· Highway 93 south of Henderson (closed March 8 – open March 12 by 6 p.m.)

· Highway 99 Minnesota River Bridge at St. Peter (closed March 8 – open March 9)

 When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.

MANKATO, Minn. – (9:15 am) The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) closed Highway 93 between Highway 169 and Henderson yesterday morning (Sunday, March 8) due to flooding of the Rush River and will remain closed until further notice. Motorists are advised to use Highway 19 into Henderson as an alternate route.

 Highway 99 at the Minnesota River Bridge in St. Peter is expected to open by 10:00 a.m. this morning, after closing last night (Sunday, March 8) due to flooding of the Minnesota River. However, forecasted Minnesota River levels may result in another closure later this week.   

 MnDOT crews will continue to closely monitor river levels. Highways and bridges impacted by floods need to be inspected for damage and safety prior to opening.
