Adapted team loses 2 at state
Softball team fought hard in both of their games at last week’s state tournament, but came up short in both as they went 0-2 in the tournament at Chanhassen High School.
The Trojans opened with a 9-4 loss to eventual tournament champion Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville and then lost 8-6 to St. Cloud. The team, which includes players from New Prague, Tri-City United, Belle Plaine and Jordan schools, ended their season with a 4-6 record.
Blazing Cats 9, Trojans 4 New Prague started out slow in their first tournament game against Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville, falling behind 5-0. One bad defensive inning cost the Trojans three runs.
The Trojan bats came alive in the top of the sixth, with Garrett Gagner, Seth Dorner, Leo Fahey, Shane Frederick and Evan Minar getting hits.
”It was a rally inning that we needed, pulling to within one run,” Coach Shellie Kriha said.
However, the Blazing Cats came right back and scored four in their half of the sixth to make the final 9-4.
“I think this was a team we could beat, but this was just not our night,” Kriha said. The team was without two players, one due to illness and one who was at a graduation ceremony.
