Adapted Trojans travel to Andover for playoffs
The New Prague Trojan Adapted Softball team lost its regular season finale to Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville 11-10 on Wednesday, May 16.
The Trojans led 10-6 going into the final inning, but gave up five runs in the top of the seventh. They were unable to get back on the board in the seventh.
"We played our best game of the year tonight," Coach Shellie Kriha said. "Losing in the top of the seventh was a tough way to go, but we are proud of how our team played against a tough Burnsville team.”
Overall, New Prague played great defense all game. Every player contributed to a great defensive game. Some stand out plays were two great line drive hits that Jake Schurman was able to snatch. Evan Minar had a double play in the fifth inning to get the Trojans out of a potential big inning. There was also a great catch by senior rightfielder Tomy He in the second inning with bases loaded to get the team out of a jam.
Offensively, Seth Dorner and Breanna Starks led the Trojans, both going 3-for-4. Adding to that with two hits each were Garrett Gagner, Schurman, Aaron Adamson and Alexis Parks.
New Prague finishes with a 4-7 record and placed fifth in the Southern Division. They will travel to Andover Thursday, May 24, to face Anoka-Hennepin in a state play-in game. The winner advances to the State Tournament to be held at Coon Rapids High School June 1 and 2.
