Driver dies in vehicle crash in Belle Plaine Township

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office has released the names involved in the two-vehicle, fatal crash on March 2. 

                According to Steve Collins, Captain of Services and Support for the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, Marcia Back, 32, of Morris, the driver of the Hyundai Elantra, died at the scene. Ryan Trcka, 20, of Montgomery, the driver of the 1995 Chevrolet pickup, was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. 

                Calls to the hospital regarding the status of his condition, were not returned.

                The accident remains under investigation.

  The driver of a Hyundai Elantra died on March 2, in a two-vehicle crash, according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Department.

            The two-vehicle crash happened at 8 a.m. on Union Hill Boulevard, north of Delaware Avenue in Belle Plaine Township.

            The Sheriff’s Department said the initial investigation indicates a 2007 Hyundai Elantra was traveling northbound on Union Hill Blvd. when it struck a 1995 Chevrolet pickup that was travelling southbound on Union Hill Blvd.

            The driver of the Hyundai Elantra was pronounced deceased at the scene and has not yet been identified.

            The driver of the pickup received serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System New Prague hospital, then airlifted to North Memorial. 

            At this time, it has not been determined if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

            “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the friends and family of the victims,” said Sheriff Luke Hennen.

            The Scott County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this incident by the Belle Plaine Police Department, Belle Plaine Fire Department, Ridgeview Ambulance Service, Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Minnesota State Patrol.

            The Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota State Patrol, and Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating this crash. Positive identification of the deceased, along with official causes of death, will be made by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
