Helen E. Meger, 80

Helen E. Meger, age 80, of rural Le Center, Minnesota passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on May 5, 2019 at the Central Health Care in Le Center, Minnesota.

Helen was born on June 9, 1938 in Spooner, Wisconsin.  She worked at Indianhead Café in Spooner and after graduating from Spooner High School in 1961, she moved to Wausau, Wisconsin. Four years later she moved to Minnesota.

After moving to the New Prague, Le Center area, she worked at Munsingwear for 22 years. 

She was married to Robert Meger on November 25, 1961.  They lived at the farmhouse since then.

After Munsingwear closed, she worked at Minnesota Valley Garden Center, Sponsel’s Minnesota Harvest Orchard, and Brewery Creek Farmers Market, retiring finally in 2002. 

She was a Master Gardener for 35 years and a member of the American Hosta Society. She had a huge garden at her home (Helen´s Hosta Heaven).  She gave tours of her hosta beds, and sold plants from home. She loved the array of flowers and raised many different kinds of hostas and peonies.  She had 360 varieties of hardy perennials (hostas) grown on six garden beds outside her farmhouse. She started the hosta empire about 30 years ago. 

 She crocheted three dimensional pansy afghans and bedspreads, and also crocheted dresses for dolls and other crafts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Meger, by her parents, and brothers, Paul and Larry.

She is survived by brother, Don (Delores) Stellrecht; sisters, Jane Shambour and Valerie (Terry) Huffman; sister-in-law, Ann Stellrecht.  Also by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Heidelberg, MN.  Visitation will take place at church 2 hours prior to Mass beginning at 9:00 AM.  Memorials are preferred to the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute. bruzekfuneralhome.com
