Highway 41 crossing to close Tuesday

Heavy rains last week have led to the closing of several crossings of the Minnesota River in the area this week, with one more crossing scheduled to close Tuesday morning. 

On Sunday, June 24, Highway 93 and Highway 19 between Henderson and Highway 169 closed as high waters covered the roadway. The flooding also delayed repairs to Highway 93 that had been scheduled for this week after an earlier closure several weeks earlier. 

On Monday morning, June 25, the County Road 9 bridge between Jordan and Carver County closed due to high water, and later that day, the Scott County Road 1 bridge between Blakeley and Sibley County also closed. 

Also, as of 10:15 p.m. Monday, Highway 93 between Highway 169 and Le Sueur was closed due to flooding. 

The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced that the Highway 41 bridge, between Chaska and Highway 169, would close at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, due to rising water levels. 

In addition, MnDOT announced that there will be delays on Interstate 35W where it crosses the Minnesota River between Burnsville and Bloomington. The right late of the road will be closed starting at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, until approximately 9:30 p.m. that evening while workers build a dike to prevent flooding on I-35W. 

With Tuesday’s closure of Highway 41, the only river crossings available for drivers between Le Sueur and Burnsville will be the Highway 25 bridge from Belle Plaine into Sibley County, the Highway 101 bridge between Shakopee and Chanhassen, and the Bloomington Ferry Bridge (Highway 169) between Shakopee and Bloomington. 

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reminds all motorists that driving through moving water is dangerous. And that it is unlawful to drive through areas where roads are barricaded. Vehicles can be swept away in only several inches of moving water.
