Infant death reported in Erin Township

Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn has reported the death of a one-month-old infant in Erin Township.

Dunn said his department received a call on Thursday, Aug. 13 at 5:29 a.m. for an unresponsive baby at a residence on the 14000 block of Shields Lake Trail in Erin Township.

“Rice County deputies, Lonsdale Fire/Rescue and North Ambulance were dispatched. Upon arrival, first responders attempted life saving measures to save this child. After an extensive efforts, they were unable to resuscitate this child,” Dunn stated. “Our deepest sympathy go out to the family of this infant. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. These calls are difficult for everyone involved and I thank our first responders for their attempts to save this child.”

Deputies and investigators from the sheriff’s office are still investigating, but Dunn said they do not suspect foul play.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy per the request of the Rice County Coroners’ Office. Dunn stated this is standard in the unexpected death of an infant.

The identity is being withheld in respect for the family to contact friends and family.

The Rice County Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the MN State Patrol at the scene.
