Angela H. "Angie" Korbel, 99

Angela H. "Angie" Korbel, age 99, of New Prague, died peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Mala Strana Care and Rehabilitation Center. Angie was born on March 26, 1925, at home in St. Benedict, Scott County, to John and Mathilda (Haus) Mayerhofer. She attended St. Nicholas Parochial School and achieved her GED in 1977 along with her son. She entered the convent but when a young man delivered milk to the convent and caught her eye, her life took a different path! She and Milo "Ozzie" Korbel were married in Jordan on Valentine's Day in 1942. In addition to raising fourteen children, Angie's work ethic was second to none! She also found time and energy to work outside the home, starting with candling eggs for Dick Korbel. She owned and operated multiple businesses with Ozzie, including the Neighborhood Inn, and sod and bait shops. She finished out her work career with over 20 years at MVE.
Angie was a dedicated member of the St. Wenceslaus Choir and also the Legion Auxiliary, where she held a number of offices. Her interests were varied and again with boundless energy. She took painting classes and used her skill to paint landscapes and tablecloths. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, making her children's clothes and costumes needed in class plays, and blankets to gift! She was a notable cook, famous for vomacka, booya, and an amazing German strudel. She hosted her large family at holidays, making 3 different meats and dozens of dumplings. Mostly, however, Angie will be remembered for her huge heart! She was independent, helpful, and giving. She always put others before herself, often going without a meal during the early years to make sure her children had food. Her family was the heart of her world and she could often be found teaching and playing cards with her grandchildren and using Scrabble to teach them spelling. Her legacy was huge and her kind, sweet nature will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Angie is survived by her children, Connie Kiser of Redwood Falls, Wayne Korbel of Roberts, WI, Edward (Carolyn) Korbel of Eden Prairie, Delores (Juan) Korbel-Alejandre of Montgomery, Darrell Korbel of Northfield, Linda Salinas of St. Peter, Milton Korbel (Mopsy Slowiak) of River Falls, Marvin (Eileen Seeley) Korbel of Burnsville, Melvin (Lin) Korbel of Webster, Marjorie Korbel of Minneapolis, Arnie (Lisa) Korbel of Alexandria; daughter-in-law, Roxanne Korbel of New Prague; 30 grandchildren; many, many great-grandchildren & great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Sister Annella Mayerhofer of St. Cloud, Helen Breggemann of Shakopee, Eugene (Delores) Mayerhofer of Bloomington, Florence Moriarity of Belle Plaine.
