Area audiences can get a look at ‘Silent Sky’ on Friday

New Prague area residents can get a look at the work of 20 New Prague High School students with a free performance this Friday, Jan. 24, of the One Act Play “Silent Sky” by Lauren Gunderson. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. at the high school auditorium, 221 12th St. NE.

“The show is shaping up well. The kids are improving each and every day. The costumes are wonderful, and we’re really looking forward to performing this Friday,” said director Ben Thietje.

The period drama is based on the life of 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt. She was a woman brimming with scientific curiosity and determined to contribute to the understanding of the universe. Leavitt’s determination served her in another aspect as she had to try to change others’ ideas of what a woman’s place was in society.
