Boys break out of scoring slump

The New Prague Trojan boys hockey team was mired in a scoring slump going into Friday’s game at Hutchinson. The team had lost seven straight and had scored just five goals since turning the calendar over to 2019.

They broke out of that slump in a big way, scoring three first period goals on their way to an 8-0 win over the host Tigers. That came after a 6-1 loss to Holy Family Catholic on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

New Prague (7-12-1, 2-6 Wright County Conference) will travel to Orono for a 2 p.m. game Saturday, Feb. 2. They host back-to-back WCC games Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 4 and 5. On Monday, they host Waconia in a makeup game and on Tuesday they host Mound Westonka. New Prague hosts non-conference Northfield on Friday, Feb. 7.

Fire 6, Trojans 1 "Holy Family is a better hockey team then us. They had more skill then us and it showed," said Coach Cory Lonke. "They are a quality Class AA opponent and to contend in those games you have to compete and play systems to perfection."
