Boys track season up and running

The New Prague Trojan boys track and field team competed in two meets last week, placing third of seven teams at the Faribault Invitational Tuesday, April 2, then fourth of five teams at the Orono Indoor meet on Thursday, April 4.

The squad is scheduled to host a five-team meet Thursday, April 11, but that meet is not expected to take place due to a winter storm forecast for the area. Their next scheduled meet is Tuesday, April 16, at Orono.

Faribault Invitational New Prague placed third of seven teams on a cold, windy day at Faribault. Austin won the meet with a score of 184.5, with Cannon Falls second at 117 and the Trojans third at 97.5. Also competing were Faribault (82), Albert Lea (55), Bethlehem Academy (14) and Minnesota-Deaf (4).

The Trojans had four firstplace finishes, two of them by Mason DeGross. He claimed gold in the 300- meter hurdles in 44.75 seconds and in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet, 6 inches. He also placed second in the 110 hurdles.

Also finishing first for the Trojans were Carson Davis in the 1,600 meters, in 5:01.73, and the 4x100 relay team of Jake Lee, Ephrata Chinedu-Eneh, Tavian Dawson and Ryan Schoenbauer in 46.61 seconds.

Other Trojans who placed: -Adam Brandt, second in the 1,600 -Jake Lee, third in the 100 m. -4x200 relay team of Riley Weckman, Trace Meyer, Xavier Emerson and Noah Fishel placed third. -Dawson placed fourth in the high jump. -Schoenbauer was fourth in the long jump -Andrew McGannon placed fourth in both the shot-put and discus. -Schoenbauer was fifth in the 100 -Jacob Malecha placed fifth in the 1,600 -Ethan Chromy placed fifth in the 300 hurdles -Ian Lilliquist, Chromy and Meyer tied for fifth in the high jump -Weckman placed fifth in the triple jump -Zack Morris was sixth in the 1,600 -Emerson placed sixth in the triple jump -Jackson Queen was sixth in the shot put -Garrett Holets placed sixth in the discus.

Orono meet New Prague took part in the first-ever indoor meet held at Orono’s new field house, and placed fourth of five teams. Waconia won the meet with....
