Don Merrill Love, 79

Don Merrill Love, age 79 of Seaford, DE; formerly of New Prague, MN; went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 6, 2018, at the Delaware Hospice Center after a recent diagnosis of terminal lung cancer. Don was born on September 22, 1938 in Marion, IN to Merrill and Ruth (Oldfather) Love.
Don married Dorene Pexa on August 20, 1960 in New Prague, MN. They are survived by their children Elizabeth “Lisa” (John) Tisdel of New Prague, MN,  John (Marcia) Love of New Prague, MN ; grandchildren Paul (Kelly) Tisdel, Phillip (Julie) Tisdel, Stephanie (Andrew) Bisek, Jacob and Brandon Love and 9 great-grandchildren.
He married Gail Kaufman on February 21, 1982 in San Juan, PR. He is survived by Gail and their children are Jillian “Jill” (Dobrisa) Jurkovic of Austin, TX, Eric Love of Gaithersburg, MD and a granddaughter Anka Jurkovic.
Don graduated from Mound High School, Mound, MN in 1956 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving until 1964.  He worked as a Police Officer and State Trooper in MN for several years while continuing his education at Mankato State College, earning a degree in Computer Science. He worked for several state agencies including the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension’s crime lab in MN  and helped to establish crime labs in other states as well. He also worked with technology companies such as Geico, investigating insurance fraud. His career allowed him to spend time living in Puerto Rico, Washington DC, Idaho, Texas, Illinois and Maryland. He retired in 2009 to Seaford, DE, where he was President of the Ridgewood Crossing HOA Board.
Don loved to fish and pheasant hunt in his earlier years. He was also known for the love he had for his cats, dogs and his dedication to his neighborhood.
Don is also survived by a sister, Jean (Gilly) Boxell and nephew Allen Boxell all of Arkansas.                       
He was preceded in death by his parents and former spouse Dorene (Pexa) Love.
A memorial service will be held in June at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE. Arrangements by Watson-Yates Funeral Home and Crematorium, a Parsell Family Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Delaware Hospice Center 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or your favorite charity.
