Eagle View students learn about Ghana through artist in residence

Eagle View Elementary School students learned about culture from Ghana, Africa, including drumming and dancing, through their artist in residence Christian Adenti. The students and staff gathered in the gym on Friday, May 4, for a 1:30 p.m. performance of African drumming and dance.

Fifth graders from the school had spent the week with the artist in residence experiencing first hand the culture of Ghana, Africa. The fifth graders proceeded to perform with Adenti on drums and did dances. The students also explained the history behind the different types of drumming and dancing. Adenti’s visit was funded by the PTO (Parent Teacher Organization).

Adenti was born and raised in Accra, Ghana. Since he was six years old, he has loved traditional African music and dance, which he started exploring in a drama group at his church. He moved to Minnesota in 2003 and has taught at...
