Easter celebrations

I hope everyone will be able to celebrate Easter with either family or friends in some way this coming Sunday. It is the second year that the pandemic has affected how many of us celebrate the holiday.

Last year Easter was looking quite a bit different even from this year. There were still quite a bit of restrictions and more churches were holding electronic services or meeting in limited capacities. Many activities were cancelled due to the pandemic.

This year we have more awareness about the virus, plus there are several vaccines, which quite a few people have already received their second shots for. There are also more activities this year, although like many over the last year there has been a different spin on them. The Elko New Market Egg Hunt was a drive through, but people still came out in droves to attend. I saw many smiles from children as they received their treat bags. A few immediately buried their head in the bag to see what kind of treats were in it.

For me I’ll see what happens. I already know I’ll be at one or two events where people are celebrating this time of renewal. For some it’s simply a time to celebrate the reawakening of the earth. For many others it’s a time to remember that Jesus rose from the grave with a message of forgiveness, love and hope that there is a better life for us not only later, but now if we learn to follow that message. That if we treat others, not just our family, friends and neighbors, but everyone as we wish to be treated that we can have a better world.

However you and your family celebrate this coming Sunday, The Times staff wishes you a Happy Easter.
