ENM Council appoints fifth member
The Elko New Market City Council interviewed three candidates to fill its fifth seat during its Thursday, Jan. 10, workshop and then approved a resolution appointing one candidate to the council at its business meeting later that evening. Candidates Jon Schwichtenberg, Kelly Strong and Amanda Novak answered questions from the council. Schwichtenberg was chosen to fill the remaining two years on the seat. The seat had previously been held by Joe Julius, who had been elected mayor in the November elections.
Mayor Julius, with council members Kate Timmerman and Josh Berg, began the business meeting by taking the oath of office. Mayor Julius was elected to a twoyear term while Timmerman and Berg were elected to terms of four years. Schwichtenberg will take the oath of office at the council’s Thursday, Jan. 24, meeting.
“We have three good candidates,” said Mayor Julius at the beginning of the council’s discussion of the three. He said they were fortunate to have such good candidates, but it did make it harder to choose one.
