Joyce F. Madson, 87

Joyce F. Madson, age 87, of Lonsdale, passed away June 5, 2024, at Villages of Lonsdale.

Joyce was born December 22, 1936, on the family farm in Greenvale Township, Northfield, the youngest of 8 children, to Carl and Marie (Hanson) Johnson. The farm was eventually sold, and they moved to Dundas.  After Joyce graduated from Northfield High School in 1954, she worked as a secretary at the Odd Fellows Home (now Three Links) in Northfield.

On May 19, 1955, Joyce married her sweetheart, Alvin “Pete” Madson at St. John’s Church in Northfield, while he was home on leave from the Army. She continued working until Pete was discharged. They then moved to the Madson family farm east of Lonsdale, where together they took over the dairy operation, farmed the land, and raised their three children. They were married for nearly 68 years.

Joyce’s strength and faith helped her overcome several major health issues during her life. She was known for her caring, sweet disposition, and her thoughtfulness. Joyce loved to read, do embroidery, and participate in a quilting group in her spare time.

She is survived by her children, Kathy (Dennis) Vosejpka of Lonsdale, Loren (Rhoda) Madson of Lonsdale, and Karen (Rich) Moldenhauer of Northfield. Two grandsons – Jamie (Eve) Vosejpka of Stanley, North Carolina, and Andy (Joy) Vosejpka of Montgomery. Three great-grandchildren – Jaxson and Ruby Vosejpka of Montgomery, and Tanna Moldenhauer of Northfield. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by husband Pete, her parents, and siblings: Leone Rollins, Clifford Johnson, Maurice “Mike” Johnson, Walter Johnson, Myrtle Chester, Mildred Lockrem Harkness, and Jean Mason.

Funeral services will be held at Historic Trondhjem Church, 8605 Garfield Avenue, Lonsdale on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Sue Leibnitz officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service, starting at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow the service.

Memorials may be directed to the Lonsdale Area Food Shelf, 7525 Garfield Ave, Lonsdale, MN, 55046, where Joyce was proud to have been a volunteer.

Joyce’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Villages of Lonsdale and Brighton Hospice for their love and care of our dear mother.

Arrangements are with the Bierman, Benson & Langehough Funeral Home.  www.northfieldfuneral.com
