Legion baseball team opens season 2-2

The New Prague Post 45 American Legion baseball team started the season at .500, splitting a doubleheader with Faribault, losing to East Ridge and defeating Mankato National last week.

Coach Bryan Lindner said the team has been competitive. “All four of our games have been one-run games,” he noted.

In the first game against Faribault on Monday, June 11, Post 45 lost by a 5-4 score. Brandon Kincade went four innings and Blake Woodson went two innings in relief.

In game 2, Jack Maxa hit a go-ahead single in the bottom of the sixth inning to give New Prague a 3-2 win. Frank Ruzicka pitched a complete game to take the win.

New Prague lost a 12-inning contest to East Ridge on Wednesday, June 13. Mitch Schoenbauer started for Post 45, and Bryce Simon and Spencer Kajer both pitched in relief. Simon tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh, but the Raptors scored in the top of the 12th to take the 7-6 win.

Bryce Johnson pitched six scoreless innings in New Prague’s win over Mankato National Thursday, June 14. The game was a makeup game for one that had been rained out on Saturday, June 9. In addition to getting the win, Johnson also drove in the....
