Lighting up the holidays

New Prague Cub Scouts Pack 323 had their float decked out to look like a pinewood derby car. They were among several area groups and businesses that took part in the Parade of Lights.

New Prague had a beautiful evening on Friday, Nov. 30, for its Parade of Lights and Holiday Celebration in the Park as temperatures in the 20s were cold, yet comfortable, and snow on the ground added to the winter atmosphere.

The New Prague Chamber of Commerce sponsored the 23rd Annual Parade of Lights, which had 22 entries representing area businesses and community organizations. Floats and vehicles, lit up with an assortment of lights, snowmen and a living manger scene, began near Kubes Furniture at the intersection of Main Street and First Avenue NW and made their way to Memorial Park.

Closing the parade was Santa riding a fire truck. He greeted children and adults in the park and lit the Community Christmas Tree. The Centennial Cabin was also open to the public, displaying how Christmas was celebrated by early settlers. Closing the evening were fireworks presented by RES Specialty Pyrotechnics.
