Lower weight wrestlers are catalysts in three dual wins

A quick start energizes any sports team.

In the case of the New Prague wrestling squad, they have received nothing but perfection from their first four wrestlers in the line-up.

“The start of our line-up continues to get us off to a great start in each dual,” New Prague wrestling coach Dan Wagner said.

“From 106-126 we have not lost an individual match. The first four weights are a combined 28-0.”

Koy Buesgens (106), Colron Bornholdt (112), Colby Dunkel (119), and Joey Novak (126) are all 7-0 and have helped the Trojans to a 7-0 start this season.

Included in those seven wins were three straight in the Plainview-Elgin-Millville Invitational Saturday, Dec. 14.

The Trojans defeated Zumbrota-Mazeppa (52-12), Rochester Mayo (65-15), and Plainview-Elgin-Millville (44-22).

“The team wrestled really well and did a great job of getting bonus points,” Wagner said. “This group of guys understand the importance of getting a bonus point for the team when they can get it. Wrestling is known as an individual sport, but not with this team. They work hard for one another.”

In the win over Zumbrota-Mazeppa, Buesgens, Bornholdt, and Dunkel started with technical falls.

Nick Novak (138), Max Scheffler (152), and Jay Skogerboe (170) each won by fall.
