Marian I. Simon, 95

Marian I. Simon, age 95, of New Prague, died peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in Jordan.  Marian was born on June 6, 1927 to Frank and Christina (Tuma) Svoboda on a farm in Cedar Lake Township. She attended School District 31 in St. Catherine; after the school closed, she attended the school of the Most Holy Trinity in Veseli, graduating in 1941. After graduating, she worked at Emil Dvorak’s and Dick Korbel’s candling eggs.

 Marian married Charles Simon on October 9, 1948 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. She remained a member of the church until her death.   Marian and Charlie lived on a farm north of New Prague, where Marian had a huge garden. She enjoyed canning, baking and sewing for her family of six children. She also enjoyed fishing, crocheting, dancing, and playing various card games. Marian and Charlie traveled to the Czech Republic, Alaska, Hawaii, and many states, and enjoyed a Caribbean cruise. After Marian and Charlie moved to New Prague in 1982, she was a substitute cook at the New Prague schools. She also delivered Meals on Wheels, was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Seniors Club.

Marian enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, where time with them was precious. She is survived by her children: Kathy and (Tom) Serrill of Minneapolis, Anita and (Peter) Neisen of Chaska, Mary Kay Simon and Bill Fuller of St. Paul, Greg and (Deb) Simon of Minneapolis, Arnie and (Maureen) Simon of New Prague, and Paul and (Naomi) Simon of New Prague, twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband on August 18, 1995; her parents, two brothers (Fritz and Edwin Svoboda), and two sisters (Julia Simon Zweber and Evelyn Ambroz).

 Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague with Father Eugene Theisen officiating.  Visitation will take place on Thursday from 4-7 pm and Friday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the KC Hall.
