Melodé K. Girard, 74

Melodé K. Girard, age 74, of New Prague, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 26, 2018.  Mel was born on July 10, 1943 in Davenport, IA to Arthur V. and Ruth A. (Boyd) Kirby.  She was raised in Marshalltown, IA and the family moved, settling in Colorado, where she met the man who would become her husband.  She and Kenneth E. Girard were married on November 16, 1957 in Denver, Colorado.  For the first years of their life, they traveled extensively for work and finally settled in New Prague in 1972.  Mel co-founded Girard Business Machines with Ken and she worked and remained a co-owner until finally retiring in 2011.  Mel was a lover of all animals and all things in nature.  She was an excellent cook, loved to play cards, and paint in oils.

Mel is survived by her sons, Luke (& Anita) Girard of Santa Clara, CA, David Girard (& Renee Orr) of New Prague, Nate (& Lynn) Girard of New Prague; daughter-in-law, Holly Girard of Woodbury; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Ken on May 31, 2006; son, Mark Girard; parents; brother, Jimmy Kirby.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home with Pastor Diane Goulson officiating.  Visitation will take place 2 hours preceding the service from 9:30 – 11:30 AM.  Lunch will follow at the KC Hall. bruzekfuneralhome.com
