Mental mistakes and struggles in ballhandling were costly for the boys’ basketball team as New Prague lost two home games. The Trojans lost to Centennial, 56- 51, Tuesday, Dec. 12, and to Worthington, 67-49, Friday, Dec. 15.

New Prague was on the road this week, first at Byron, Tuesday, Dec. 19. The next game is at St. Peter, tonight (Thursday), at 7:15 p.m. The Trojans will be at Lakeville North’s invitational beginning Thursday, Dec. 28.

Centennial 56, New Prague 51 It was a tight game Dec. 12 as New Prague led 30-29 at the end of the first half. Centennial was able to turn the scoring around in the second half to take a slim lead.

“We struggled shooting the ball. We only connected on 31.6 percent of our field goals and 55 percent of our free throws,” said head coach Dan Peterka.

The Trojans hit 9 of 31 shots attempted on two-pointers and 9 of 26 three-point shots. For free throws, they hit 11 of 20. New Prague’s Evan Weichert was near perfect in free throws scoring seven of eight.

“We did a good job of executing our offense and getting the shots we wanted, but were unable to consistently put the ball in the basket,” Peterka said. “I was happy with our effort. We just have to keep working, and keep improving as we go.”

For the night, Weichert led everyone in scoring with 26 points. Following him were teammates Henry Novak with eight, Charlie Ambroz with seven, Jack Hennen with six and Tanner Nordrum, George Songe and Troy Davis all chipping in three points each.
