Muskies, Irish, Mudcats win region openers

Prior Lake, New Market and St. Patrick won their first round games in the Region 3C Playoffs Sunday, July 28. A fourth game, Montgomery at Faribault, was postponed due to rain and will be played at 8 p.m. Monday, July 29, in Faribault.

Sunday’s results:
Mudcats 3, Orioles 1
All runs were scored in the fourth inning. Prior Lake had three runs, with BJ Benz and Greg Faue both getting RBI singles. Jake Deutsch drove in Austin Bachman with the Orioles. Luke Weber threw a complete game for the win, while Nate Sprouls pitched well for the Orioles going seven innings. Zach Sirek pitched the final two innings for New Prague.

Irish 9, Saints 2
Colllin Denk threw seven innings, allowing five hits and one run as St. Patrick defeated St. Benedict 9-2. Dom DeLuca and two hits and three RBIs and Matt Ambroz had two hits and two RBis. Seth Ambroz was intentionally walked four times in the game. Nick Heitkamp had two hits for the Saints. Jeremy Heitkamp took the loss.

Muskies 13, Aces 2
New Market defeated Lonsdale 13-2 in their tourney opener. Nate Rost got the win on the mound. Nick Rost, Tony Vocca and Tyler Bergstrom all homered for the Muskies.
