New Prague Snowdrifters celebrate 50 years Sunday

The New Prague Snowdrifters Snowmobile Club is celebrating its 50th birthday, and all members and former members are invited.

The celebration will be held Sunday, March 24, from 1-5 p.m. at the St. Patrick Social Hall. Food and drinks will be available.

The Snowdrifters met for the first time on January, 1969, at MVE. There were 17 snowmobilers present and Larry Scheffler was elected president.

The Snowdrifters are one of the longest continuously operating snowmobile clubs, and today has more than 100 family memberships. All members are members of MNUSA (Minnesota United Snowmobilers Association). The club meets monthly from October to March to ensure the snowmobiling needs of the area are being met.

Paul Maruska said going over the minutes of meetings over the years found some interesting things. The club hosted a snowmobile racing event in February, 1979, the same year that the club........
