NP floor hockey team enjoys big wins before facing tough challenges

With the meat of its schedule on the horizon, the New Prague High School floor hockey team enjoyed big wins in the past week.
In the past week, the Trojans co-op team topped a co-op team of players from Chanhassen-Chaska-Shakopee and Prior Lake Tuesday, Jan. 28. They also thumped South Suburban Thursday, Jan. 30, in Bloomington. The wins improve NP’s record to 5-0.
Now things start to get tough. After Tuesday’s game against South Washington County Tuesday, Feb. 4 (details were unavailable before press time), the Trojans head to Lakeville Tuesday, Feb. 11, 4:30 p.m., to take on the defending state champions from Burnsville-Farmington-Lakeville. They’ll travel to Stillwater Thursday Feb. 13, 4:30 p.m., before hosting a powerhouse Dakota United squad Feb. 19 in the regular season wrap-up.
“We have come a long ways and have looked better and better as each game has progressed so I feel like the kids are prepared and ready for these tough teams,” said coach Jeremy Kallal. “If we can get through this stretch of games against some proven teams, I feel really good about our chances of making a run at the state tournament.”
Trojans 12, South Suburban 4 New Prague built a big lead and emptied the bench in the second and third periods on the way to a big win Jan. 30 in Bloomington.
NP took a 7-zip lead into the second period. South Suburban battled back, outscoring the Trojans in the second period. NP rallied in the final stanza, expanding its lead to eight goals.
The Trojans’ Logan Bermel led all scorers with five goals in the win. Lorelai Hamre, Trystan Seger, Ryan Swenson, Brock Kocina and Elliot Soukup all added goals as well. Kocina, Nikkos Patrin, Seger and Soukup added assists in the NP scoring.
