NP girls break in new tennis courts with a ‘W’
Having waited three weeks to break in the renovated tennis courts at New Prague High School, the Trojans proved the wait was worthwhile as New Prague christened the new playing surface with a win.
New Prague will host Chaska today, Sept. 14, 4:15 p.m., and then head over to Southwest Christian High School to face the Stars Monday, Sept. 18, 4 p.m. New Prague will face St. Louis Park Tuesday, Sept. 19, 4:15 p.m., at SLPHS.
Trojans 5, Mankato East 2 The Trojans’ tennis team defeated Mankato East Monday, Sept. 11, at their first home match on the new tennis courts. Showing their depth in singles play, New Prague saw wins at second, third and fourth singles. Iris Trygestad won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4. Ella Blackford took the third singles match, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, and Ava Farrell won at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-2. In doubles play, New Prague’s top two teams were also victorious. The tandem of Ellie Thomas and Savannah Ryburn won, 7-5, 6-3 while the No. 2 doubles team – Maggie Giesen and Kirsten Overgaard – battled back from a first set loss to claim a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Holy Family 4, Trojans 3 New Prague dropped a hard fought match to Holy Family Tuesday, Sept. 6. Ava Farrell won at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-0. New Prague’s top doubles tandems, Ellie Thomas and Savannah Ryburn won, 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 (tie-breaker), while Maggie Giesen and Kirsten Overgaard won at second doubles, 6-4, 6-7, 10-7 (tie-breaker).
