NP will send five to state track meet

New Prague High School is sending five members of its track team to the state meet this coming week at St. Michael-Albertville High School.

Advancing from the section meet last weekend at Lakeville South High School, New Prague’s Bjorn Olson earned a state berth in the 300-meter hurdles and Adam Proshek made the state field in the high jump, both with personal record performances.

The state meet is slated for June 10-12 at St. Michael-Albertville High School.

NP girls New Prague’s Ashdyn Padelford won the discus. Her personal-record throw of 128-feet-9 bested the field by over 7 feet.

Senior Ava Bruegger won the pole vault. She cleared 11-feet-6, a personal-best and 18 inches higher than the event’s runner-up.

The Trojans’ Hailey Proshek punched her ticket to the state meet with a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. Proshek finished in 15.18 seconds, .14 of a second out of second and .68 seconds off the winning time. The state qualifying time in the event is 15.47 seconds.

Susie Dalsin reached the state meet with a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing 5-feet-1.

The NP girls had several athletes reach the finals of their events. The finals of the 200-meter dash saw NP’s Claire Meyer finish sixth in 26.97 seconds.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Proshek finished ninth in 54.75 seconds.

Ashley Kulakevich finished 17th in the finals of the 1,600-meter run. Her time was 6:02.76. Norah Wacek took 21st in 6:15.6.

In the 3,200-meter run, Paige Swanepoel finished 13th in 13:01.38. Anna Eichhorst finished 17th in 13:26.98. Kulakevich was 18th in 13:33.50.

New Prague’s entry in the 4-by100-meter relay – Rose Bornhofen, Bruegger, Frankee Spicer and Proshek – finished ninth in 52.46 seconds.

In the 4-by-200-meter relay, the NP quartet of Spicer, Claire Meyer, Natalie Kraft and Ellie Bawdon was eighth at 1:50.73.

The Trojans’ entry in the 4-by400-meter relay – Aspen Schieffer, Kraft, Reggie Skogerboe and Audrey Wagner – finished sixth in 4:17.10.

In the 4-by-800-meter relay, NP’s Maya Kilian, Swanepoel, Eichhorst and Audrey Wagner finished fifth in a season-best time of 10:10.36.

Also in the finals, Julia Kubes took seventh in the discus with a throw of 109-feet-7.

In the shot put, Kubes finished sixth at 36-feet-6. Racquel Kruger took 12th at 32-feet-1.

Audree Connelly took eighth in the high jump clearing 5-feet. Sienna Larson was 17th at 4-feet-6.

Ellie Bawdon had NP’s top finish in the long jump. Her jump of 16-feet-5 was good for seventh place. Natalie Kraft finished ninth at 15-feet-11. Ali Miller finished 21st at 13-feet-7.

In the triple jump, Proshek had NP’s top jump. She finished 10th at 33-feet-4. Addison Schwirtz took 13th at 32-feet-2.

Macy Rybak finished seventh in the pole vault clearing 9-feet. Karly Ophus finished 16th at 8-feet.

NP boys Bjorn Olson made the state field in the 300-meter hurdles. He finished second in 39.02 seconds, .14 seconds off the winning time and well within the qualifying time of 40.5 seconds.

In the high jump, Adam Proshek finished second at 6-foot-2, 1 inch behind the winning jump.
