Oliver Busch, 86

Oliver P. Busch, age 86, of New Prague, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on Friday, May 25, 2018.  Oliver was born on August 7, 1931, in St. Benedict, MN to Florian and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Busch. He attended St. Benedict School and spent most of his life in the St. Benedict area. He entered the US Army in 1952, serving in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1954. He married the love of his life, Louise A. Pieper, on June 20, 1956, at St. Mary’s Church in Marystown, MN. Together they raised their seven children on the Busch family farm in St. Benedict. A dedicated farmer his entire life, Oliver also was known for his custom corn shelling and grain hauling. Oliver was a member of the American Legion, VFW, St. Benedict Men’s Society, St.  Benedict Church Choir and a former trustee of St. Benedict Church. Oliver’s love of baseball continued throughout his life. In his younger years he played catcher for the St. Benedict Saints. In his later years he played in “old-timers” baseball games. He was also an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Playing cards and old-time music were favorite pastimes and in his earlier years, he and Louise loved dancing to that old-time music. His highest priority and favorite activity, however, was spending time with his family. Oliver’s family and friends will always cherish the memories of his quick wit and sense of humor.

Oliver is survived by his children, Clarine (Craig) Buszmann of Burnsville, Rodney Busch (Peg Solheid) of New Prague, Doris (Jerry) Wawrzyniak of Jordan, Kevin (Susan) Busch of Jordan, Linda (Ken) Brooks of Jordan, Sharon (Al) Menke of Jordan; brother, Elgar (Irene) Busch of New Prague; sister, Pauline Krenik of Lonsdale; sisters-in-law, Rose Busch of Shakopee, Gladys Krautkremer Busch of New Prague; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Louise, on December 15, 2017; son, Steven in 1984; daughter, Mary Elizabeth in infancy; parents; four brothers, Harold, Edgar, Wilbert, and Lando Busch.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 29, at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church (Union Hill), 20087 Hub Drive, New Prague with Father George Grafsky presiding. Oliver will be laid to rest at St. Benedict Cemetery with military honors immediately following the service.
