Pack 323 has record entry for Pinewood Derby

New Prague’s Cub Scouts of Pack 323 had a lot of exciting fun on Saturday, Feb. 8, as they held their annual Pinewood Derby at St. Wenceslaus Church’s Parish Activity Center. This year’s races of 52 wooden cars, built by the Cub Scouts, was a record number of entries for the annual event.

“It went fantastic this year,” said Cubmaster Erick Christianson of the Pinewood Derby.

He explained that last year the electronics for timing the cars failed and volunteers had to watch at the finish line to see who won. “The volunteers worked really hard this year to make sure the electronics were working and the races went smoothly,” he said.

A new aspect is that the Cub Scout program now lets girls join. “We had incredible participation from the girls and they did really well,” said Christianson “It’s great that we have girls in the pack now.”
