Patricia A. Mahowald, 88

Patricia A. Mahowald, age 88, of New Prague, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at The Villages of Lonsdale. 

Pat was born on October 22, 1930 in Antigo, Wisconsin to Park and Lauretta (Freidl) McMeekin.  She graduated from Antigo High School and went on to attain a Bachelor of Arts degree in speech and drama from St. Scholastica College.  To help pay for her college education, Pat  played piano in Wisconsin speakeasys, which was during the big band era .  After college, she was a concert pianist for orchestras in Wisconsin until answering a newspaper ad to teach in New Prague.  She boarded a train, came to New Prague, accepted the teaching position at New Prague High School, and then met a young dentist who had just come out of the Navy and noticed her walking down the street.  Pat and Dr. LeRoy R. Mahowald were married on October 3, 1953 in Antigo, Wisconsin.  They raised their four children and became lifelong residents of New Prague.  Pat played the piano throughout most of her life and thoroughly enjoyed the many Bridge clubs that she was a member of and her morning coffee with her many friends.

 Pat is survived by her children, Gretchen (Loras) Haws of Kilkenny, Jennifer (Ron) Kaiser of Linton, ND, Christopher Mahowald of Mankato; daughter-in-law, Theresa Mahowald of Minneapolis; sister, Jeanine McMeekin of Antigo, WI; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded by her husband Dr. Lee Mahowald on January 29, 1987; son, Mathew; daughter-in-law, Cindy Honza Mahowald; parents.

Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home with visitation 1 hour prior to service.   Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.  bruzekfuneralhome.com
