Richard G. Peters, 84
Richard G. Peters, age 84, of New Prague, died peacefully after a very brief illness, with his wife at his side at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital New Prague, on Friday, February 23, 2024. Richard was born on April 3, 1939, in Watkins, Minnesota, to Raymond and Anna (Ahles) Peters. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from St. Boniface High School in Cold Spring, Minnesota. He served in the US Army Reserves.
Richard met a young woman from Union Hill at a wedding and fell in love with her! Helen Geisen married Richard on July 20, 1968, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill. Richard and Helen made their life and raised their son in Burnsville, until shortly before retirement when they moved to New Prague. He had a strong work ethic and was a very loyal employee of the Ford Motor Company for 35 years. Richard always had a soft spot for farming, and he filled that longing by helping friends or family on their farms when time allowed. Work filled Richard’s life but on the rare occasions when they had time away, they travelled to Hawaii and visited a few of the western casinos. Always happy, Richard woke up with a smile on his face and never a complaint. He greeted the world with positivity and infected those around him with the same.
Richard is survived by his wife, Helen, of New Prague; son, Brian (Cathy) Peters of Rosemount; grandchildren, Tyler & Kara Peters; brother, Leonard (Doris) Peters; sisters, Lorraine Provo of Golden Valley & Viola (Erv) Knoblach of Arizona. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charlie.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill with Father Eugene Theisen officiating.
