Time to step up!

In just a few weeks, baseball players and fans from across Minnesota will be coming to New Prague as the city serves as host to the Minnesota Class B and C Amateur Baseball Tournament.

The New Prague Orioles, the City of New Prague and many others have been preparing for this event for more than three years. There were $1 million in improvements made to the Memorial Park baseball stadium to help get it ready for the tournament… A new backstop, new dugouts and a press box, new entry, concession stand and bathrooms and new lights and some new light standards were just part of the changes to the facility. These improvements will serve the community for years to come.
But it takes more than just improved facilities and money to run a tournament like this. Thousands of baseball fans will be coming to New Prague over three weekends and volunteers will be needed to help make sure the tournament runs smoothly. These include volunteers to work in concession stands, take tickets, work on grounds crews and serve as team hosts. Many people have stepped up already to volunteer, but many more are needed.

A story in this week’s newspaper talks about the different volunteer opportunities and how to sign up to help make the tournament a success. We urge people to show their hometown pride and step up to help make this tournament a success.
