Worthington matches 2-0 win over New Prague in section championship

Earlier this season Worthington edged New Prague High School (NPHS), 2-0, in boys soccer. The two teams faced off one more time, this time in the Section 2AA Championship match Tuesday, Oct. 18 in New Prague. Worthington once again defeated the Trojans, 2-0, to advance to the Class AA State Tournament.

“A tight start to the game was similar to our performance when both teams played early in the season. NPHS played well in the first half of the game,” head coach Cam Stoltz said. “The Trojans started off fast and just one minute into the game with a breakaway by (SP FWD) Shae Dickerson was saved by the Worthington goaltender. A resulting rebound came to (JR FWD) Satchel Johnson who shot the ball from 18 yards out, only to sail inches over the crossbar and out of play.”

NPHS continued to press well and roughly 20 minutes into the game apparently scored when Dickerson headed the ball in the goal off of a Worthington goalkeeper save. However, joy was killed when the linesman judged New Prague offsides prior to the shot, disallowing the goal.
