WEM wins Gopher Conference, starts Section 1A playoffs as No. 1 seed Bucs finish regular season 18-0
It came down to a pair of games Thursday to determine the Gopher Conference softball champion.
It also came down to two games to see if the WEM softball team could continue what no other team in Class A softball has done this year...not lose a game.
The Bucs came out and defeated Maple River, 3-0, behind a no-hitter by junior Trista Hering.
After downing the Eagles in Mapleton, WEM headed east to New Richland to battle the Panthers for the outright conference crown.
The Bucs opened up a 9- 0 lead before allowing three runs in the sixth during the 9-3 victory. The Bucs finished the regular season with a 14-0 record in conference and an 18-0 overall record. They are the only team in Class A yet to lose a game.
I was extremely proud of how the girls played,” WEM head coach Crystal Lamont said. “They were dealt with some unusual circumstances by adding another game at a second site. The girls were locked in and played well in all areas.”
