Bucs tie for 3rd in WEM Invitational
The WEM volleyball team won their opening Gopher Conference match of the season and placed third in their home invitational this past week.
The Bucs swept JWP 25-11, 25-20, 25-15 Thursday, Sept. 7 in Waterville. Two days later they hosted the 45th annual WEM Invitational and split four matches.
WEM defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran (MVL) 25-20, 25-15 and TriCity United 25-14, 15-13, and were defeated by Cleveland 17-25, 25-19, 15- 12 in pool play.
The Bucs advanced to the championship bracket along with Cleveland, New Ulm Cathedral (NUC), and Nova Classical Academy. Nova was the top seed from the second pool and they defeated the Bucs 25-18, 25-16. In the other championship semifinal, Cleveland defeated NUC 25-20, 25-8.
Cleveland improved to 8-0 this season with a 25-18, 26-24 win over Nova in the Championship. Nova was rated in the top 10 in state after a 31-3 season last year.
Tri-City United edged MVL 28-26, 26-24 in the consolation championship.
