Condon named Gopher Conference Female Track & Field Athlete of Year

WEM junior Addison Condon was one of 13 WEM boys and girls track and field athletes honored by the Gopher Conference.

Condon was named the Female Athlete of the Year after placing first in the conference triple, second in the 100-meter dash and long jump, and was a member of the first place 400-meter relay team.

Joining Condon on the All-Gopher Conference First Team were senior Ashlyn Pelant (shot put and discus champion), seniors Loryn Caldwell and McKenna Schuster and seventh grader Rachel Mielke (4 x 100-meter relay champions).

Senior Tatum Richards was named Honorable Mention All-Conference. Junior Jaelyn Wilmes received the Conference Sportsmanship Award.

Sophomores Gavin Atherton and Wyatt Jans were each selected to the All-Gopher Conference First Team. Atherton was selected for his performances in the 100-meter (2nd), 200-meter (1st), and 400-meter dash (2nd) races. Jans was the Conference Champion in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs.

Junior Talen Taylor and sophomores Ethan Einertson and Trey Richards were named Honorable Mention All Conference. Sophomore Reed Sammon received the Conference Sportsmanship Award.

Four new Gopher Conference boys records were set in mid-May. Atherton set a new record in the 200-meter dash with his time of 22.38.

Five Buccaneers currently hold conference records. They are Tyler Vezke in the shot put in 2005 (54-feet, 6 1/4-inches), Cory Neid in the long jump in 1990 (22.feet, 1/2-inch), Ryan Morris in the 100-meter dash in 1994 (11.0), Mike Proell in the 1,600-meter run in 1993 (4:33.5), and the 4 x 100-meter relay team of Jayden Taylor, Tyler Hermel, Tanner Ranslow, and Isaac Pratt in 2019 (44.57).
