Elysian Street Project Update

Over the last week, the contractor has been able to complete the water main installation on the first phase of the project, and by the time this information reaches you the storm sewer will also be completely installed for the first phase.

Once construction resumes this week, they will focus on connecting a handful of water services. The only remaining work will be to construct the new road base before concrete curb and bituminous paving.

Street construction involves several steps. First, the street is subcut. This involves evacuation and removal of the top layer of soil. After subcutting, geotextile fabric will be placed over the entire width of the street and drain tile will be placed in the street. To aid in accessibility, the contractor will first be the construction Jason Drive, G Avenue, and 1st Street between Highway 60 and G Avenue before constructing the portion of Maple Avenue and remaining 1st Street.

The final steps of street construction involve placement of concrete curb and gutter and the bituminous surfacing. If weather permits, curb will be placed in early June.

Temporary water will remain where needed until permanent services are installed. in certain locations, these temporary water lines may cross the street or driveways. Gravel has been placed over the top of these lines so that vehicles can safely drive over them.
